سورة الأنفال - 8 -

بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful and the Most-Compassionate
1

يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الأَنفَالِ ؕ قُلِ الأَنفَالُ لِلّٰهِ وَالرَّسُولِ ۚ فَاتَّقُواْ اللّٰهَ وَأَصْلِحُواْ ذَاتَ بِيْنِكُمْ ࣕ وَأَطِيعُواْ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

They ask you about the bounties. Say, “The spoils of war (booty, bounties) are for Allah and the Messenger.” So, fear Allah, reform among yourself, and follow Allah and His Messenger if you are believers.
2

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللّٰهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ۖ ۚ

Truly, the believers are those when Allah's name is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, their belief increases, and they trust their Rabb.
3

الَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ؕ

نَفَقَ,
صلو,
قَامَ,
رَزَقَ,
They are the ones who establish the prayers and give from the provisions We have bestowed upon them.
4

أُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقًّا ؕ لَّهُمْ دَرَجَاتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ

رَزَقَ,
كَرُمَ,
عَنَدَ,
رَبَّ,
These are the true believers, they have high ranks with their Rabb, forgiveness, and generous provisions.
5

كَمَا أَخْرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِن بَيْتِكَ بِالْحَقِّ ࣕ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقاً مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَكَارِهُونَ ۙ

خَرَجَ,

فَرَقَ,
بَا تَ,
كَرِهَ,
رَبَّ,
Like How your Rabb sent you out (to fight non-believers at Ghazwa Badr) from your home rightly, and indeed, a group (of Muslims) of the believers were unwilling (to fight Makkans and return to Madinah).
6

يُجَادِلُونَكَ فِي الْحَقِّ بَعْدَمَا تَبَيَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى الْمَوْتِ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ ؕ

They argue with you after the reality is made clear like they are driven to death and are examining (carefully considering that they may be dead).
7

And when Allah committed a group (one of two groups; one group of a caravan of nonbelievers returning after trading in Syria and one group of nonbelievers marching in from Makkah to fight) that is for you, and you (some of the believers) loved that other than the bravery (fighting) might be for you. Allah desires that truth be actual with His words and eradicate unjust nonbelievers.
8

لِيُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ الْبَاطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ ۚ

جَرَمَ,

For the truth be the truth and falsehood get eradicated, even though the criminals detested.
9

إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّي مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلْفٍ مِّنَ الْمَلآئِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ

When you called for help to your Rabb, He answered, "For you, I'll be helping you with one thousand angels in succession."
10

When He covered you with drowsiness to bring a feeling of peace from Him, and He sent down rain on you from the sky, to clean you with it, and to take away the filth of the shaytan (doubts and fears), and to connect your hearts, and with this, firmly establish your initiative. (The Muslim army had a refreshing night of sleep before the battle started, a blessing from Allah, Ref. The Battle of Badr was fought on Tuesday, 13 March 624 CE,17 Ramadan, 2 AH).
12

إِذْ يُوحِي رَبُّكَ إِلَى الْمَلآئِكَةِ أَنِّي مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ ؕ سَأُلْقِي فِي قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ الرُّعْبَ فَاضْرِبُواْ فَوْقَ الأَعْنَاقِ وَاضْرِبُواْ مِنْهُمْ كُلَّ بَنَانٍ ؕ

When your Rabb inspired the angels, "I am with you, "establish (strengthen) those who believe. I will put terror in the hearts of those nonbelievers. So, strike on their necks and every fingertip.
13

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَآقُّواْ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ اللّٰهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

شَقَّ,
عَقَبَ,
رَسِلَ,
شَدَّ,

That is because they separated (breakaway, split away) from Allah and His Messenger. And whoever separates (breaks away, splits away) from Allah and His Messenger, then indeed, Allah is severe to Punish (Follows in penalty).
14

ذَلِكُمْ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابَ النَّارِ

“It is for you, so taste it.” It is the punishment of the Fire for the nonbelievers.
15

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ زَحْفاً فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ الأَدْبَارَ ۚ

O you those who believe! When you meet those nonbelievers who are advancing (marching towards you), do not turn your back on them.
16

وَمَن يُوَلِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ دُبُرَهُ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفاً لِّقِتَالٍ أَوْ مُتَحَيِّزاً إِلَى فِئَةٍ فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَمَأْوَاهُ جَهَنَّمُ ؕ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

Who turns back from them on that day (tries to escape), except to change positions for the fight or gain control of another group, has returned with wrath from Allah, and his place is Hell.
17

فَلَمْ تَقْتُلُوهُمْ وَلَـكِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَتَلَهُمْ ࣕ وَمَا رَمَيْتَ إِذْ رَمَيْتَ وَلَـكِنَّ اللّٰهَ رَمَى ۚ وَلِيُبْلِيَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بَلاءً حَسَناً ؕ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Then you did not kill them, but Allah killed them. And you did not throw sand, but Allah threw sand. And Him to test the believers from this, a good trial. Truly, Allah is All-Listening and All-Knowing.

وَهَنَ,
كَفَرَ,

This is for you. And indeed, Allah weakens the plans of the nonbelievers.
19

(O Makkan non-believers) If you (wanted to) begin (start a fight), then the beginning (of fighting) already started (came to you). And if you restrain (hold yourself), that is better for you. And if you return (to attack), We will return (to fight back with you), and your troops will be useless in anything even though you are numerous. And indeed, Allah is with the believers.
20

And remember when you were few, weakened in the earth, fearing that men will abduct you; then (but) He sheltered you (gave peaceful place), and helped with His assistance, and gave you pure and clean provisions of livelihood, so, that maybe, you will be thankful.
27

Indeed, nonbelievers spent their wealth to hinder (cause to prevent) the path of Allah. Then soon (what) they are spending on it will become a source of grief, and then they will be defeated. Those who do not believe will be gathered toward hell.

38

قُل لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِن يَنتَهُواْ يُغْفَرْ لَهُم مَّا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۚ وَإِنْ يَعُودُواْ فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلِينِ

As salamu alaikum. Based on my research and understanding, I believe that the root words for يَحُورَ are ح - ا- ر which can be used to imply "returned", "change from a good state to a bad state", "decrease", "confusion".This maybe a wrong observation. Please look into it and guide me. JazakAllah.

Response:

Walakum As salam. Inaaya According to the dictionary, there are many translations of the root word for يَحُورَ, ح - ا- ر,حَارَ including to return, to be reduced, white, and alley, etc., with other meanings of other morphed forms that are available by clicking on the link of dictionary Page # 176 of the word حَارَ. The translations follow the meanings of the dictionary. In the translation for the Surah No. 84--الإنشِقاق--Splitting Open --.Ayat No 14 is translated as "to return," and it is the correct translation. Let us know of a particular Ayat in your references. I hope it answers your inquiry. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your efforts. JazakAllah Khair.

Great work done here may Allah SWT accept this endeavour and increase you and your team in knowledge, just a couple of inputs, one the dictionary you have used gives many example of words and example outside of the Quran Vocubalary, can you attach some good lexicon of Quranic arabic, second is it possible to show the dictionary page a copy able text so people can use it for their personal research. Again good work, please continue the development. Jazak Allahu Khair

Response:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu Kamran Shaikh, Thank you for your valuable advice on adding a Quranic Lexicon to increase the understanding of the Quran. This task would require a team of scholars to research the historical context and include the latest scientific proofs to explain the definitions and meanings backed by research references. We have already included a few references, such as the supernova explosion with the plasma jet stream in Surah Tariq. We invite interested audiences with expertise in the scientific community to establish a committee and work together to publish a Qur'anic Lexicon to improve our understanding of the Al-Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who received the Glorious Al-Quran. We are grateful to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for this blessing and strive to understand His message and seek His forgiveness. We appreciate your encouraging comments. Kindly inform us of any errors or suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. جزاك اللهُ خير Jazaka Allahu Khairan: May Allah reward you with good.

Assalamu alaikum , may I know root letter for اتقوا thank you

Response:

Assalamualaikum, Thank you for your inquiry. I have used the root for اتقوا as تَقَى; however, وَقَى, has the same meaning when used as a verb. If we use, “those who are afraid of Allah”, we can use وَقَى, as root words. If we use “those who are devout, and pious”, then we can use تَقَى, as the root word. Assalamoalaikum, may Allah swt grant immense ajar in the akhira and also dunya to the makers of this priceless app. With utmost respect, I wish to point out that in surah 87 , ayah 16 the root word of توثرون is mentioned as ث ر ا meaning "wealth", the word توثرون is from باب افعال so it can not be ث ر ا, whereas other sources have confirmed that the root is ا ث ر meaning "to prefer" and it matches the وزن of باب افعالIt is a great pleasure reading the quran with the root words, jazak Allaho khairan kaseera

Arabic root word for ' you decend '

Response:

Assalamualaikum, Uzma Khawar, A simple translation for "you descend" is "تنزل", derived from the root word "نَزَلَ". Surah 26, Ayat 221 is one of several verses in the Quran where the word "descend" is mentioned. May Allah reward you for your efforts. Jazaka Allahu Khairan: جزاك اللهُ خيرا.

AoA. Thank you for compiling the roots in one place. Barak Allahu Feek! In looking at some of the root words you show, some are different that what other sources say. As an example for 1:5, the word الصِّرَاطَ is generally tied to the root صِرَط, but you are showing صِرَاط. There are several others that do not match with typical conventions. I don't know Arabic at all, let alone what roots are 'true'. Just humbly requesting if you can share what specific source do you follow to list the roots? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated, and will help me align my understanding of the various ways of looking at the Quranic text, iA. Thank you again for the great work you have initiated. SA

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Fahad, Appreciate your comment. The root words are normally listed in separate alphabets, but the reader of the Quran will not easily identify the words of Quranic Ayats. The Dictionary of the Modern Literary Language Compiled and Arranged by MAAN ZULFI MADINA shows the root word most closely listed in written forms. Checking in the dictionary on pp-371, the word used is صِرَاط with the meanings of way and path. The word for ارض is shown as أَرَض. The word wrapping sometimes becomes a problem in the data and should be ارض. There are a few words that will be updated to be the same as shown in the dictionary. We will keep updating the root words as shown in the dictionary. Originally the work was developed in excel with the link function and find function of root words in the Quran. Now we have used SQL to upload the files. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. Jazaka Allahu Khairan: ًجزاك اللهُ خيرا “May Allah reward you with good.”

Dear Admin, you have written صدق الله العظيم as part of every sorah and even given it an ayat number while it is not part of the Quran. The Holy Quran does not have this verse and there is no example of writing these words in the Quran so please remove this as it is a kind of tehreef.JazakAllah

Assalam u Alakum Qaisrani, We appreciate your comment. The line صدق الله العظيم, ALLAH HAS SPOKEN THE GREATEST TRUTH, was added to be read after the recitation of Al-Quran as a regular practice. We agree with your comment that these lines are not part of Al-Quran and should not number as a continuation of Ayats. We will remove these lines on the next upgrade. It has become part of the database at present, and for now, we will add clarifications to these lines. Mashaa Allah may Allah rewards you for the great works. Is it possible if it also contains arabic to arabic dictionary and perhaps later we can also do the etimology study of each of the quranic words original meaning

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Luqman Abdurahman We received the Message of Al-Quran from Prophet Muhammed Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam : صلى الله عليه و سلم also ﷺ) . WHAT WE READ IN AL-QURAN ARE WORDS of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta`ala, الله سبحانه وتعالى FROM WISEST AND GREATEST MAN ON THE EARTH and this is our blessing in our life that we received the Guidance, and Thank Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. We need to understand the meanings of each word and context of the Ayahs. We appreciate your recommendation and will try to add the etymology of words. We need the help of readers like you to further advance this website. Please let us know if you find any mistakes for corrections or provide us with your suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. Jazaka Allahu Khairan: ًجزاك اللهُ خيرا “May Allah reward you with good”

Its a stunning work. i am learning arabic and deeply interested to speak fluently. If you can provide the linking pages as text reference, will be a great boon for us. through that we can also search for any words that appear in texts and refer back to the root. it is also the reverse way. But now the linked dictionary pages are in pdf or image only ref. But thanks very much for this wonderful work. Ifyou can make a tool out of it..we can contribute to it as i know time is spent very much on it.

Response:

Assalamu’alaikum Babu, It is our blessing from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, that He sent us His Great Messenger, Prophet Muhammad Salla Allahu hu Alaihi Wassalam, with Quran. It is Guidance for our lives. We must understand, each word of Quran, and ask for His guidance, Forgiveness and Acceptance. We thank you for your comments of encouragement. We want to keep the dictionary in original format, and the great work done by author Maan Zulfi Madina and Columbia University. We do have plan to digitize the dictionary later if the permission is granted. Please continue to use the website and send us recommendations. Please share the website with others. Jazakallah

Salam - For the last 10 years I have been searching for a similar tool that can connect the Quranic ayats with their root words. This is a revolutionary tool that truly fulfils the gap in understanding that existed between the meaning and spirt of each ayat. After gaining this deeper level of understanding the process of reading quran becomes a process which is a dialogue between your soul and Allah. Now i understand why this message was such a transformational tool in the lives of sahaba since they understood the root meaning of quranic ayats. I feel like this is the need of the hour and this tool will truly helps us in establishing and connecting back to our true ibrahimic roots. I would like to send my deepest gratitude to team behind this master piece.May the ummah benefit from this revolutionary tool.

Walakum Assalam, Waleed, We received the Message of Al-Quran from Prophet Muhammad Salla-Allahu Alayhi Wasallam, and this is our blessing in our life, and to Thank Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. All we can do is to try understanding His Message and ask for His Forgiveness. Your comments were encouraging; we are working on the next phase of update where we will add few more words and few corrections, along with links of dictionary pages enabled, just by hovering over the Ayats. Please let us know if you find any mistakes for corrections or provide us with your suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. JAK.

Salam - JazakAllahu Khairan for operating this website. It is very helpful in learning the root words that are associated with the ayats of the quran. I noticed today that the links to the dictionary are not working. I am not sure if it is only me who is seeing this or others are experiencing the same issue. Regards

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Kashif The Website is working good, sometimes the links takes time to respond and open the page of the dictionary. If you wait or login again it should resolve the issue. Keep us informed if you find that word links are not responding. We are working on upgrades where each word will be directly linked to Dictionary. JAK
