بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

2

يُنَزِّلُ الْمَلآئِكَةَ بِالْرُّوحِ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ عَلَى مَن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ أَنْ أَنذِرُواْ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَـهَ إِلَّا أَنَاْ فَاتَّقُونِ

أَ رَضْ,
حَقَّ,
شَرِكَ,

He created the universe and the earth with true essentials (conditions, proportionate, designed, sized, and justified by its needs). He is exalted high above all; (how) they make partners (He does not need a partner).
4

رَاحَ,
جَمَلَ,
سَرَحَ,
حَانَ,
And it is beautiful when you let them rest and when you let them graze freely in the evening.
7

وَتَحْمِلُ أَثْقَالَكُمْ إِلَى بَلَدٍ لَّمْ تَكُونُواْ بَالِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ الأَنفُسِ ؕ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ ۙ

And they carry your weight to the town that you could not achieve (reach) without hardship to yourself. Indeed, your Rabb is Most Compassionate and Most Merciful (He provided means of transportation for your livelihood. Humankind could not have developed modern vehicles if there were no animals to ride, carry on their belongings, and transport materials initially starting civilization).
8

وَالْخَيْلَ وَالْبِغَالَ وَالْحَمِيرَ لِتَرْكَبُوهَا وَزِينَةً ؕ وَيَخْلُقُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

And to Allah is the ultimate destination of the path, but in this (path) is also deviation (people may have different aims to fulfill their self-desires while pretending to be aiming to the way of Allah). If He desired, He would have guided you all together.
10

هُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً لَّكُم مِّنْهُ شَرَابٌ وَمِنْهُ شَجَرٌ فِيهِ تُسِيمُونَ

And from this, He grows plants (cultivation), the olives, the date-palm trees, the grapes, and all kinds of fruits for you. These are signs for the nation that (intellectually) thinks.
12

And He is the one who subjugated the oceans for you to eat fresh meat from it and to bring out ornaments from it that you wear. And you see the ships with back sterns (to help navigate) to seek the bounties of Him so that you may become thankful.
15

وَأَلْقَى فِي الأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَارًا وَسُبُلاً لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ ۙ

نَهَرَ,
أَ رَضْ,

مَادَ,
سَبَلَ,
لَقِيَ,
هَدَى,
لَعَلَّ,
And He cast the mountains in the Earth, that (Earth) may swing (or swing-out) with you (Most mountains formed from Earth’s tectonic plates smashing together. Below the ground, Earth’s crust is made up of multiple tectonic plates. They have been moving around since the beginning of time. And they still move today due to geologic activity below the surface. On average, these plates move at a rate of about one to two inches each year); He cast rivers and created paths (A river forms from water moving from a higher elevation to a lower elevation, all due to gravity. When rain falls on the land, it either seeps into the ground or becomes runoff, which flows downhill into rivers and lakes, on its journey towards the seas) so that maybe you will get guidance (Praise your Rabb that He created everything to provide you with comfort and livelihood).
16

وَعَلامَاتٍ ؕ وَبِالنَّجْمِ هُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

هَدَى,

17

أَفَمَن يَخْلُقُ كَمَن لاَّ يَخْلُقُ ؕ أَفَلا تَذَكَّرُونَ

خَلَقَ,
ذَكّرَ,
Is He who creates, like him who does not create? Do you then not (think and) mention?
18

وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَةَ اللّٰهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَا ؕ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

رَحِمَ,
غَفَرَ,
نَعَمَ,

And if you (try to) count favors of Allah, you cannot count them (they are countless for you). Indeed, Allah is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
19

وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ

سَرَّ,
عَلِمَ,
عَلَنَ,
And Allah knows what you conceal and what you declare.
20

وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللّٰهِ لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ ؕ

دَعَا,

And those they call other than Allah do not create anything but are themselves created.

حي,
غير,
بَعَثَ,
مَاتَ,
أَيْنَ,
They are dead, without life (not alive), and do not know when they will be resurrected. Note. (This Ayat indicates that visiting the graves of remarkable individuals to seek their influence or intercession is an act of polytheism that is not accepted in monotheistic religions, including Islam).
22

إِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۚ فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

أَ مَرَ,

أَ مُنَ,
نَكِرَ,
Your God is one God. As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, their hearts are in denial, and they are arrogant.
23

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ؕ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

سَرَّ,
عَلِمَ,
عَلَنَ,
حَبَّ,
كَبَرَ,
جَرَمَ,
Without a doubt, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. He does not like those who are arrogant.
24

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَا أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُواْ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ ۙ

قَالَ,

And when it is said to them, “What has your Rabb revealed?” They say, “Fable myths of ancestors.”
25

لِيَحْمِلُواْ أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ الَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ؕ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ ࣖ

عَلِمَ,

حَمَلَ,
ضَلَّ,
قَامَ,

وَزَرَ,
كَمِلَ,
Let them carry their burdens altogether on the Day of Standing and (including) charges for those they have misguided without knowing. What evil (burden) do they carry?
26

Already, those before them (the earlier nations) have also deceived, but Allah annihilated their basis of constructions from the foundations (at the bases) and dropped the roofs (ceiling) from above them. He brought them the punishment where they did not realize.
27

ثُمَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُخْزِيهِمْ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآئِيَ الَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تُشَاقُّونَ فِيهِمْ ؕ قَالَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْعِلْمَ إِنَّ الْخِزْيَ الْيَوْمَ وَالْسُّوءَ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ ۙ

After that, on the Day of Standing, He will disgrace them and say, “Where are My partners that you used them to separate (yourself from Me)? Those given the knowledge will say, “The disgrace and evil of this day are on the ungrateful.”
28

الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلائِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنفُسِهِمْ ࣕ فَأَلْقَوُاْ السَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِن سُوءٍ ؕ بَلَى إِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

وَفَى,
سَا ءَ,
كَانَ,
سَلِمَ,
When the angels take those who have done injustice to themselves to death, they will surrender and submit (saying) that we were not doing evil. But Allah is All-Knowing about what you have been doing.
29

فَادْخُلُواْ أَبْوَابَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ؕ فَلَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

جَهَنَّم,
بَأْ س- بَؤُ سَ,
بَا ب,
خَلَدَ,
كَبَرَ,
ثَوَى,
So, enter the gates of Hell to live therein forever. What a wretched place for arrogant persons to settle down.
30

And they say to those who fear their Rabb, “What has your Rabb revealed?” They said, “Goodness.” Those who do good in this world are good, and the Home of the Hereafter is even best for the God-fearing.
31

جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآؤُونَ ؕ كَذَلِكَ يَجْزِي اللّٰهُ الْمُتَّقِينَ ۙ

Gardens of Eden, they will enter in there, with running rivers below them, for them (they will be provided with) whatever they desire. That is how Allah rewards God-fearing.
32

الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلآئِكَةُ طَيِّبِينَ ۙ يَقُولُونَ سَلامٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ۙ ادْخُلُواْ الْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Those whom the angels take to death in a state of purity (angels) will say, “Peace be upon you; enter Paradise because of what you have been doing.”
33

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْمَلائِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ؕ كَذَلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ؕ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَلـكِن كَانُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Are they waiting for the angels to come to them or for the decisions of your Rabb to arrive? Those before them did the same. Allah was not unjust to them, but they were unjust to themselves.
34

فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّئَاتُ مَا عَمِلُواْ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِؤُونَ ࣖ

And those who make partners with Allah say, “If Allah desired, we would not have worshipped other than Him in anything; not us and not our ancestors, and we would not have forbidden anything other than Him.” That is how those before them have done. Is it not on the messengers except to communicate the clear message?”
36

And We have raised in every nation a messenger: “Worship Allah and avoid exceeding the proper bounds.” Among them are those whom Allah has guided, and among them are those who justified the misguidance. So, travel on the earth and see how those denied received retribution (punishment).
37

إِن تَحْرِصْ عَلَى هُدَاهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَن يُضِلُّ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّاصِرِينَ

And even if you desire to guide them, Allah does not guide those who are misguided. Nobody is there for them as a helper.
38

And they take an oath to Allah with strenuous efforts (to prove) their belief that “Allah will not resurrect who dies.” But It is a promise on Him, the truth, but many of humankind do not know.
39

لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِي يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ كَاذِبِينَ

To make it straightforward for those who differ in this (rising of the dead on Judgment Day) and those who are ungrateful to know that they have been lying.

صَبَرَ,

And Allah has sent down water from the sky, then gave life with it to the earth after it was dead; indeed, there are signs for the nation who listens. Note.[Water is polar. Water molecules are polar, with partial positive charges on the hydrogens, a partial negative charge on the oxygen, and a bent overall structure. This is because oxygen is more electronegative, meaning that it is better than hydrogen at attracting electrons. Water is an excellent solvent. Water has the unique ability to dissolve many polar and ionic substances. This is important to all living things because, as water travels through the water cycle, it takes many valuable nutrients along with it! Water has high heat capacity. It takes a lot of energy to raise the temperature of a certain amount of water by a degree, so water helps with regulating temperature in the environment. For example, this property allows the temperature of water in a pond to stay relatively constant from day to night, regardless of the changing atmospheric temperature. Water has high heat of vaporization. Humans (and other animals that sweat) use water’s high heat of vaporization to cool off. Water is converted from its liquid form to steam when the heat of vaporization is reached. Since sweat is made mostly of water, the evaporating water absorbs excess body heat, which is released into the atmosphere. This is known as evaporative cooling. Water has cohesive and adhesive properties. Water molecules have strong cohesive forces due to their ability to form hydrogen bonds with one another. Cohesive forces are responsible for surface tension, the tendency of a liquid’s surface to resist rupture when placed under tension or stress. Water also has adhesive properties that allow it to stick to substances other than itself. These cohesive and adhesive properties are essential for fluid transport in many forms of life. For example, they allow nutrients to be transported to the top of a tree against the force of gravity. Water is less dense as a solid than as a liquid. As water freezes, the molecules form a crystalline structure that spaces the molecules further apart than in liquid water. This means that ice is less dense than liquid water, which is why it floats. This property is important, as it keeps ponds, lakes, and oceans from freezing solid and allows life to continue to thrive under the icy surface.] (Ref.https://www.khanacademy.org).

Like touch, audition requires sensitivity to the movement of molecules in the world outside the organism. Seeing-In humans and several other mammals, light enters the eye through the cornea and is focused by the lens onto the retina, a light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eye. The retina serves as a transducer for converting light into neuronal signals. This transduction is achieved by specialized photoreceptive cells of the retina, also known as the rods and cones, which detect the photons of light and respond by producing neural impulses. These signals are transmitted by the optic nerve from the retina upstream to the central ganglia in the brain—the lateral geniculate nucleus, which transmits the information to the visual cortex. Signals from the retina also travel directly from the retina to the superior colliculus. The Heart-The heart pumps blood with a rhythm determined by a group of pacemaking cells in the sinoatrial node. These generate a current that causes contraction of the heart, traveling through the atrioventricular node and along the conduction system of the heart. The heart receives blood low in oxygen from the systemic circulation, which enters the right atrium from the superior and inferior venae cave and passes to the right ventricle. From here it is pumped into the pulmonary circulation, through the lungs where it receives oxygen and gives off carbon dioxide. Oxygenated blood then returns to the left atrium, passes through the left ventricle and is pumped out through the aorta to the systemic circulation−where the oxygen is used and metabolized to carbon dioxide. The heart beats at a resting rate close to 72 beats per minute. Notes copied from Wikipedia)

Assalam-u-Alakum Tanzib, I would like to thank you for recommending the user manual. Please find below the instructions on how to use the "rootwordsofquran" website: Step 1: Click on the root words displayed on the right side of the Ayats. A summary of a few meanings will be provided. Step 2: Click "Follow the link for reference on the Dictionary page." This will take you to the pages of the dictionary for the words. For advanced search options, highlight and copy the root word, then right-click and select "Search Google for." You can use Wiktionary, PONS translations, or other websites and paste the root word for search. For a more detailed analysis, you can refer to Lane's Lexicon (quranic-research.net). To search other websites for the Ayats, highlight the entire Ayat and right-click to search Google for other websites. I hope the above instructions are helpful. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your efforts. JazakAllah Khair. (ًجزاك اللهُ خيرا)

As salamu alaikum. Based on my research and understanding, I believe that the root words for يَحُورَ are ح - ا- ر which can be used to imply "returned", "change from a good state to a bad state", "decrease", "confusion".This maybe a wrong observation. Please look into it and guide me. JazakAllah.

Response:

Walakum As salam. Inaaya According to the dictionary, there are many translations of the root word for يَحُورَ, ح - ا- ر,حَارَ including to return, to be reduced, white, and alley, etc., with other meanings of other morphed forms that are available by clicking on the link of dictionary Page # 176 of the word حَارَ. The translations follow the meanings of the dictionary. In the translation for the Surah No. 84--الإنشِقاق--Splitting Open --.Ayat No 14 is translated as "to return," and it is the correct translation. Let us know of a particular Ayat in your references. I hope it answers your inquiry. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your efforts. JazakAllah Khair.

Great work done here may Allah SWT accept this endeavour and increase you and your team in knowledge, just a couple of inputs, one the dictionary you have used gives many example of words and example outside of the Quran Vocubalary, can you attach some good lexicon of Quranic arabic, second is it possible to show the dictionary page a copy able text so people can use it for their personal research. Again good work, please continue the development. Jazak Allahu Khair

Response:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu Kamran Shaikh, Thank you for your valuable advice on adding a Quranic Lexicon to increase the understanding of the Quran. This task would require a team of scholars to research the historical context and include the latest scientific proofs to explain the definitions and meanings backed by research references. We have already included a few references, such as the supernova explosion with the plasma jet stream in Surah Tariq. We invite interested audiences with expertise in the scientific community to establish a committee and work together to publish a Qur'anic Lexicon to improve our understanding of the Al-Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who received the Glorious Al-Quran. We are grateful to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for this blessing and strive to understand His message and seek His forgiveness. We appreciate your encouraging comments. Kindly inform us of any errors or suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. جزاك اللهُ خير Jazaka Allahu Khairan: May Allah reward you with good.

Assalamu alaikum , may I know root letter for اتقوا thank you

Response:

Assalamualaikum, Thank you for your inquiry. I have used the root for اتقوا as تَقَى; however, وَقَى, has the same meaning when used as a verb. If we use, “those who are afraid of Allah”, we can use وَقَى, as root words. If we use “those who are devout, and pious”, then we can use تَقَى, as the root word. Arabic root word for ' you decend '

Response:

AoA. Thank you for compiling the roots in one place. Barak Allahu Feek! In looking at some of the root words you show, some are different that what other sources say. As an example for 1:5, the word الصِّرَاطَ is generally tied to the root صِرَط, but you are showing صِرَاط. There are several others that do not match with typical conventions. I don't know Arabic at all, let alone what roots are 'true'. Just humbly requesting if you can share what specific source do you follow to list the roots? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated, and will help me align my understanding of the various ways of looking at the Quranic text, iA. Thank you again for the great work you have initiated. SA

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Fahad, Appreciate your comment. The root words are normally listed in separate alphabets, but the reader of the Quran will not easily identify the words of Quranic Ayats. The Dictionary of the Modern Literary Language Compiled and Arranged by MAAN ZULFI MADINA shows the root word most closely listed in written forms. Checking in the dictionary on pp-371, the word used is صِرَاط with the meanings of way and path. The word for ارض is shown as أَرَض. The word wrapping sometimes becomes a problem in the data and should be ارض. There are a few words that will be updated to be the same as shown in the dictionary. We will keep updating the root words as shown in the dictionary. Originally the work was developed in excel with the link function and find function of root words in the Quran. Now we have used SQL to upload the files. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. Jazaka Allahu Khairan: ًجزاك اللهُ خيرا “May Allah reward you with good.”

The root word Maalik in "مَـالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ" is given as Malak. Meanings are given as "Angel, Acquire , Take , Possession , Property , wealth , state , Government , Royalty , State , Civilian". Please let me know where I am missing the link.

Response:

Assalam U Alaikum, Asifuddin We appreciate your comment. Words in Each Ayat of the Quran are linked to the pages of the Dictionary. Just click on the root word next to Ayat and the dictionary page will open, where meanings are provided. Please follow the meanings provided in the dictionary. • Follow the link for reference Dictionary page. مَلَكَ The dictionary shows the meanings Ruling, Possessing, Owner, Holder and includes King and Sovereign words. Approximate contextual meanings are provided in the translation. Hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you find any mistakes for corrections or provide us with your suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. Arabic grammar and root words are same?

Response:

Assalam u Alaikum We appreciate your comment. In order to use the dictionaries, the words are arranged according to roots. Arabic words are listed under their roots. The knowledge of Arabic Sarf (Morphology) and Nahw (Syntax) is required to understand the meaning. Please read the pp ix of the dictionary, ( ARRANGEMENT AND SEQUENCE OF ENTRIES). Qaisrani 10/11/2021 11:05:09 PM
Dear Admin, you have written صدق الله العظيم as part of every sorah and even given it an ayat number while it is not part of the Quran. The Holy Quran does not have this verse and there is no example of writing these words in the Quran so please remove this as it is a kind of tehreef.JazakAllah

Response:

Assalam u Alakum Qaisrani, We appreciate your comment. The line صدق الله العظيم, ALLAH HAS SPOKEN THE GREATEST TRUTH, was added to be read after the recitation of Al-Quran as a regular practice. We agree with your comment that these lines are not part of Al-Quran and should not number as a continuation of Ayats. We will remove these lines on the next upgrade. It has become part of the database at present, and for now, we will add clarifications to these lines. Please let us know if you find any other mistakes for corrections or provide us with your suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. Its a stunning work. i am learning arabic and deeply interested to speak fluently. If you can provide the linking pages as text reference, will be a great boon for us. through that we can also search for any words that appear in texts and refer back to the root. it is also the reverse way. But now the linked dictionary pages are in pdf or image only ref. But thanks very much for this wonderful work. Ifyou can make a tool out of it..we can contribute to it as i know time is spent very much on it.

Response:

Assalamu’alaikum Babu, It is our blessing from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, that He sent us His Great Messenger, Prophet Muhammad Salla Allahu hu Alaihi Wassalam, with Quran. It is Guidance for our lives. We must understand, each word of Quran, and ask for His guidance, Forgiveness and Acceptance. We thank you for your comments of encouragement. We want to keep the dictionary in original format, and the great work done by author Maan Zulfi Madina and Columbia University. We do have plan to digitize the dictionary later if the permission is granted. Please continue to use the website and send us recommendations. Please share the website with others. Jazakallah

Salam - For the last 10 years I have been searching for a similar tool that can connect the Quranic ayats with their root words. This is a revolutionary tool that truly fulfils the gap in understanding that existed between the meaning and spirt of each ayat. After gaining this deeper level of understanding the process of reading quran becomes a process which is a dialogue between your soul and Allah. Now i understand why this message was such a transformational tool in the lives of sahaba since they understood the root meaning of quranic ayats. I feel like this is the need of the hour and this tool will truly helps us in establishing and connecting back to our true ibrahimic roots. I would like to send my deepest gratitude to team behind this master piece.May the ummah benefit from this revolutionary tool.

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Waleed, We received the Message of Al-Quran from Prophet Muhammad Salla-Allahu Alayhi Wasallam, and this is our blessing in our life, and to Thank Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. All we can do is to try understanding His Message and ask for His Forgiveness. Your comments were encouraging; we are working on the next phase of update where we will add few more words and few corrections, along with links of dictionary pages enabled, just by hovering over the Ayats. Please let us know if you find any mistakes for corrections or provide us with your suggestions for improvements. May Allah Subhanahu Wa-Ta'ala reward you for your efforts. JAK.

Salam - JazakAllahu Khairan for operating this website. It is very helpful in learning the root words that are associated with the ayats of the quran. I noticed today that the links to the dictionary are not working. I am not sure if it is only me who is seeing this or others are experiencing the same issue. Regards

Response:

Walakum Assalam, Kashif The Website is working good, sometimes the links takes time to respond and open the page of the dictionary. If you wait or login again it should resolve the issue. Keep us informed if you find that word links are not responding. We are working on upgrades where each word will be directly linked to Dictionary. JAK
